The pinnacle of New Zealand’s alpine walking tracks is the Dusky track…
Introduction to the Dusky Track
The Dusky Track offers an opportunity for fit experienced trampers to explore Fiordland back country wilderness at it’s rawest. Boat across Lake Hauroko to the start of the track, climbing steeply up the Hauroko Burn to Lake Roe Hut, set beautifully amongst solid granite outcrops.
Traverse along the tops of the Pleasant Range with spectacular views of Dusky Sound and the surrounding mountain ranges before descending steeply to Loch Maree. Travel along the Seaforth River to Supper Cove, returning by helicopter (guided walk only) for a well-earned hot bath!
Freedom Plus and Freedom Walk customers need to walk out via Loch Maree to Lake Manapouri to catch the boat back to civilisation.
- Hike over the Southern Alps to the west coast
- Wild, rugged and remote scenery…in a world heritage area
- A true conquest for the serious tramper
- A very high level of fitness is required.
Sorry not too many luxuries on the trail for this guided walk but we do chopper in supplies and helicopter out from Dusky Sound so you don’t need to back track.
