Introducing HikeSouth, New Zealand Hiking and Tramping specialists

Hike South is based in Queenstown on the edge of Fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Park and just up the road from Stewart Island…. right in the heart of New Zealand’s tramping country and ideally situated to help coordinate all your hiking trips.

We have oodles of experienced friendly local staff ready at your beck and call. We love this country and delight in helping visitors explore the area, confident they have the best itinerary and are well prepared.

Head HikeSouth honcho is Evan Bloomfield. He founded HikeSouth in 1993 with a hankering to help people untangle the mysteries that come with planning a multi day trip in to the back country.

Our Guides

Our multi-day guided trips are led by experienced and knowledgeable  local guides who are passionate about the area and will make sure you get the most out of  your adventure. Meet a few of our current guides…

joshJosh Riddell

Hailing from Riverton in the south west corner of Aotearoa, Te Wahipounamu, Josh usually wears clothes when he goes tramping. He’s been a guide for nine years now, and only ever lost two people (and found one which makes it nearly okay). He’s interested in life,  vege gardens, large hadron colliders, quiet time, wild turkey, rugby league, cob ovens, slip n slides and generally exploring everywhere.

Leo Gedye

Leo is from the North Island and has been based in Wellington for the last four years. He is currently enjoying getting out of the city and back into the real world for a change. He’s passionate about gardening, people, bees, eating very well and he also has a penchant for darning socks.

He loves tramping and exploring NZs backcountry and has a very extensive knowledge and interest in local ecology and plants

“apart from chrissy, lichens are pretty much my favourite organism”

Chrissy Hamillchrissy

Chrissy first discovered a love for the NZ wilderness when she got accidentally  stranded on an island in Fiordland as a 17 year old… Since then she’s tramped  in places all across NZ and will take any excuse for an  adventure. She’s passionate about conservation and environmental issues, long cycle trips, chocolate, making good porridge, and is currently learning to play the fiddle..
